A great old friend, Nancy was just starting her latest venture as a TEC (a CEO peer mastermind) Chair. In her excitement, she went a little too long on her elevator pitch and had to be stopped.
Then when she redid her pitch, she used an acronym to explain what she did. Using acronyms in elevator pitches can be dangerous because your audience may not know what it means and may be too embarrassed or rushed to ask for an explanation.
Once we had a short discussion about what pain was the most expensive one that Nancy solved, I was able to give her some concrete suggestions about what to say in her 30 second Elevator Pitch.
The entire conversation with Nancy showed once again that, as entrepreneurs we’ve been trained to start talking about ourselves first. We have not given a single thought to what ultimate, costly and persistent problem we could possible solve for our clients. I hope watching or listening these podcasts have opened your eyes to a whole new world of communicating more effectively with the people who you want to help.
