73% of marketers are using AI for content creation, but here’s the kicker – 46% of US adults say they’d stop buying from brands they suspect use AI-generated content. Now I know you DON’T want that for your marketing. Here are a few ideas on how to avoid sounding like AI.
Drop Some F-Bombs (Strategically)
Nothing says “human” like a well-placed curse word in your articles, posts or presentations. If this makes you too uncomfortable, you can avoid using the real salty words by saying ‘effing’ or ‘sugar’. You can be sure that AI doesn’t do that.
Your Messy Stories Beat Perfect Copy
Tell stories like this one “Remember that disaster client meeting in Chicago where I completely bombed my presentation? I was sweating like a nervous teenager at prom, stumbling over words, the whole nine yards.” That vulnerability? Pure marketing gold.
Talk Like You’re Texting Your BFF
Skip the corporate speak.Drop the acronyms, the short-hand and ultra polished words. Use words like “gonna” instead of “going to”, say “totally” unironically, throw in some slang. Just sound like yourself. As they say, everybody else is taken.
Embrace Your Inner Chandler Bing
Could your marketing BE any more boring? (See what I did there?) Pop culture references make you relatable. When I compare bad networking to watching The Office with no sound – people get it. And the best news, AI doesn’t often go there. Unless you program it to, Which most people don’t.
Show Your Human Side
Share the exact coffee shop where you had that breakthrough moment. Remember specific details: “It was a Tuesday, raining, and I was wearing my lucky red blazer”. Make grammar mistakes ocasionally (see that?). Talking about how you felt is the biggest reflection of who you are. Gain trust by showing your vulnerability. Because, you guessed it… vulnerability is human.
Your imperfect, authentic voice beats robot-perfect copy every single time. So quit trying to sound like Siri and start sounding like you.
